Neighborhood

Known as the ‘perfect little city’, Durham has the best mix of everything and it all blends seamlessly. It retains its mediaeval heritage but it also has a modern and vibrant twist. It boasts lush green landscapes but it also has busy cobbled streets with independent shops, bars and restaurants.

Durham has plenty of history within its walls. One of the most spectacular historic sites is Durham Cathedral. Constructed between 1103 and 1133, this towering building is a shining example of Norman architecture. The cathedral is now the oldest surviving building with a stone vaulted ceiling of such a large scale.

The closest train station to West Rainton is Durham Train Station. From here, you’ll have direct access to Newcastle. A number of connecting routes can also be found from these stations so getting to other locations around the UK could not be easier.

The 20 bus route runs through West Rainton, providing a route between Durham and Sunderland.

Sehr schönes helles comfortables Reihenhaus. Altbau, sehr gut renoviert und ausgestattet. Funktionell und sehr geschmackvoll. gemütliches Wohnzimmer.
Lage direkt neben Durham. Gute, ruhige Lage für Ausflüge in die Umgebung, an die Küste , nach Durham und Newcastle.

Very nice property in good location. Disappointed that the heating wouldn’t work initially but further disappointed when I found on my return that the boiler had been switched off! I had no heating or hot water until I switched it back on. I felt very uneasy about this. Just to note also, I was staying 4 days it was on day 3 I requested support with the heating as it wasn’t working re the guide. I’d not had the heating on at all until this point! I was very disappointed to find that someone had entered the property whilst I was out on the pretence they were fixing the heating, only to turn it all off!

Very comfortable house, good for access to Durham. However, it would’ve been nice to have some more personal touches like capsules for the coffee machine etc.

Lovely decor. The kitchen was fully stocked with essentials so felt like a home from home. Sadly the shower leaked through into the kitchen ceiling and the additional cost for ‘damages’ was a shame to include after your upfront costs.

Our stay was lovely! The place looks fantastic and the owners have clearly put a lot of work in. Kitchen is perfect for dinner settings and sofa was really comfy to lounge in the evenings. We got in touch for a wee bit of help with a minor issue in the bathroom and someone came right away. He was so lovely and helpful! Would most definitely come back and recommend for anyone looking for a quiet stay. Thanks for having us!

Immaculate, sympathetically updated cottage. Ideal location for visiting Durham to the South and Beamish to the North.
No private parking is the only slight negative but the village is quiet so street parking not too much of an issue.

The house itself is Immaculate, recently refurbished and tastefully done.
The back garden is not the same standard as the house itself but did not affect our stay.
The location is a good base to see the surrounding areas.
